This week, the Committee for Religious Liberty of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) issued its annual report on the state of religious liberty in the country. The document summarizes developments on policies affecting religious liberty, the role of religion in public life, and identifies some “areas of critical concern.”
The report points out three major threats to religious freedom: 1) political and anti-religious violence, 2) unjust terms and conditions on federal grants, and unreliability of government, and 3) access to sacraments for ICE detainees and immigration enforcement at houses of worship. It also identifies three key opportunities for religious liberty in the U.S.: 1) school choice and the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit, 2) repeal of provisions that prohibit religious organizations from participating in government programs, and 3) further repudiation of gender ideology.
