Senate Committee Reviews Child Care Tax Credit Bill

April 27, 2026

The Missouri Senate Committee on Emerging Issues and Professional Registration heard a bill Tuesday to create three child care tax credit programs aimed at increasing supply, helping parents work, and strengthening family finances.

House Bill 2409, sponsored by Rep. Brenda Shields (R – St. Joseph), would create tax credits for those who donate to child care facilities, for employers who help pay for employees’ child care, and for child care providers themselves. Shields hopes that the programs will encourage donations that would be used to expand capacity, optimize facilities, and improve the salaries and training of staff members.

The bill, which has been passed by the House already, must be voted by the committee before passing to the full Senate for consideration. The MCC has testified in support of this proposal.
