Recently, Planned Parenthood and other big abortion businesses were banned from receiving federal Medicaid dollars for one year. However, Planned Parenthood sued, and a preliminary injunction was granted by the court that requires taxpayer funding to continue. Archbishop Timothy Broglio, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), and Bishop Daniel Thomas, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, are inviting Catholics to join a focused effort of daily prayer to stop taxpayer funding of the abortion industry. The prayer will invoke the intercession of Saint Joseph, Defender of Life, beginning on July 25 and continuing until October 1, marking the start of Respect Life Month.
The invitation for prayer comes as Planned Parenthood announced the closure of two of its six clinics in the Houston area, including its Prevention Park location, which was known as the largest abortion facility in the world until the state’s near-total abortion ban in 2022. Texas Right to Life President Dr. John Seago called the Prevention Park location’s closure an “unmitigated victory for life.” At its peak, this center aborted 10,000 babies a year, up until 24 weeks of pregnancy.
