The Missouri Senate on Thursday passed a more than $1.5 billion plan intended to keep the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs from moving to Kansas. Under the plan, the state would back about 50 percent of the costs of stadium improvements for both teams. Kansas has proposed to take on nearly 70 percent of the cost if the Royals and Chiefs move across the border and has given both teams a deadline of June 30 to accept.
As part of the special session called by Gov. Kehoe, the Senate also approved $100 million in aid for those impacted by the May 16 tornado in St. Louis and nearly $360 million for state construction projects that were shelved by House Republicans at the end of the regular session.
The bills now go to the House for debate.
