Missouri lawmakers this week completed their work on the $50.7 billion state budget for fiscal year 2027. The budget, contained in 16 spending bills, allocates $48.7 billion to state government operations and another $2 billion for construction and building maintenance.
The approved budget provides $4.3 billion to fund K-12 public schools and $1.3 billion for Missouri’s public colleges and universities. It also restores more than $51 million in proposed cuts to childcare funding and $80.7 million in proposed cuts for developmental disability services.
A $10 million increase to the state’s school-choice scholarship program, MOScholars, was added back to the final budget after initially being removed in the Senate. This means that $60 million will be appropriated to MOScholars in FY ‘27.
