On Monday, the Missouri House of Representatives greenlighted a bill to promote fatherhood in the state and empower men to become successful fathers.
HB 1948, sponsored by Rep. Jamie Gragg (R-Ozark), would create the “Missouri Fathership Project” to provide resources for fathers. These include a grant program and accompanying fund for family-focused agencies to hire and train specialists, who are to serve as a point of contact for fathers who want to reestablish and strengthen their relationship with their children, helping them navigate the system towards reunification.
The measure passed by a vote of 141-4, receiving bipartisan support, and will now go to the Senate for consideration. The MCC testified in support of HB 1948.
