Two Missouri lawmakers filed suit last week challenging the bill authorizing state funding for Kansas City sports stadiums. State Sen. Mike Moon (R – Ash Grove) and State Rep. Bryant Wolfin (R – Ste. Genevieve) are challenging the bill as unconstitutional because it is a “special law” that benefits private interests and combines multiple unrelated subjects.
The KC stadium financing bill–passed as part of a special session in June–would set aside tax revenue generated by the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals and other economic activity at their respective stadiums. The plan would cover about 50 percent of the costs of stadium improvements for the Chiefs and a new stadium for the Royals.
