Recently, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined Bishop Robert Barron of Winona-Rochester, Minnesota, for an interview in which she opened up about her long-lasting Catholic faith.
Justice Barrett mentioned her love for the saints, specifically for St. Catherine of Siena and St. Thérèse of Lisieux. She also emphasized the importance of prayer and shared that she tends to do reading reflections and meditate on the Magnificat daily.
Regarding public policy, Justice Barrett pointed out the importance of working towards the common good: “I believe in natural law, and I certainly believe in the common good. I think legislators have the duty to pursue the common good within the confines of the Constitution and respect for religious freedom.”
When asked to give some advice to young Catholics who wanted to get involved in public life, Justice Barrett recommended always prioritizing one’s faith: “If you do feel like this is a vocation and something you’re called to do, I think it can never be the most important thing. I think being grounded in your faith and who you are and being right in the Lord, so that you’re not tossed like a ship everywhere because there are enormous pressures. Faith grounds me as a person.”
