An inmate at the Women’s Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center (WERDCC) in Vandalia was honored for her quick actions to save a child.
According to a press release, inmate Tara Carroll recently aided one of the babies from the Nursery Program. The baby had thrown up and appeared to be choking. The little boy had stopped breathing when Carroll jumped in to help, rescuing the child. WERDCC noted that she used the training methods she was taught at the facility to help save the baby’s life. Carroll was given the Life Saver award for her bravery.
