The Missouri House ended the special legislative session by passing a bill to finance Kansas City sports stadiums and provide tornado relief for St. Louis. The KC stadium financing bill–estimated at $1.5 billion over 30 years–would set aside tax revenue generated by the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals and other economic activity at their respective stadiums. The plan would cover about 50 percent of the costs of stadium improvements for the Chiefs and a new stadium for the Royals. Kansas has proposed to take on nearly 70 percent of the cost if the teams move across the border and has given both teams a deadline of June 30 to accept.
The House also approved $100 million in aid for those impacted by the May 16 tornado in St. Louis and nearly $360 million for state construction projects that were shelved by House Republicans at the end of the regular session.
