Dr. Stansfield Discusses the Rise of Medication Abortions and the Need for the Passage of Amendment 3

September 25, 2026

Dr. David Stansfield, a retired family medicine physician, recently spoke with the St. Louis Review about the critical need to restore basic protections for women at abortion clinics that were lost after the passage of the 2024 pro-abortion constitutional amendment.

In June, Judge Jerri Zhang issued a permanent injunction striking down several state abortion laws that were challenged under that amendment. Among those provisions were special licensing requirements for abortion providers, state inspections of abortion clinics, admitting privileges requirements, and the state’s requirement that a physician be physically present when a patient takes abortion medication.

Dr. Stansfield, president of the Catholic Medical Association’s St. Louis Guild, stated that Amendment 3 is a step in the right direction toward more ethical and medically responsible abortion regulations. You can read the full article in the St. Louis Review.
