After a 75-hour debate, the House of Lords, the upper chamber of the U.K. Parliament, halted consideration of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill on April 24. The bill would have allowed terminally ill adults with six months or less to live to request medical help to end their own lives.
Alex Schadenberg, Executive Director for the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, said there is a “big pushback happening” against assisted suicide. Recently, Scotland defeated the Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults Bill in a final vote on the legislation. Slovenia overturned its assisted suicide law.
