On Tuesday, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) filed a lawsuit challenging the government’s unlawful suspension of funding for its refugee admissions program. The full legal filing is available here.
Chieko Noguchi, the director of public affairs for the USCCB, reiterated that refugees are people who not only are fleeing hardship and persecution, but also have undergone special screening and vetting procedures, and urged the government “to uphold its legal and moral obligations to refugees and to restore the necessary funding to ensure that faith-based and community organizations can continue this vital work that reflects our nation’s values of compassion, justice, and hospitality.” To read the full USCCB statement, click here.
