Thousands Attend Midwest March for Life

May 02, 2025

While the threat of rain and thunderstorms kept some people at bay, thousands gathered at the Missouri State Capitol to defend human life and pray to end abortion.

It was the first Midwest March for Life since voters approved Amendment 3 on the November 2024 ballot, which made abortion a constitutional right in Missouri.

Bishop Edward Rice of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau was the main celebrant and homilist at the Mass at the Proto-Cathedral of St. Peter, across the street from the Capitol building.

Bishop Rice stated that it was our duty to continue to fight for the sanctity of life and that we must find a way to make abortion unthinkable in our society. We must support the woman who finds herself pregnant under difficult circumstances or is pressured to have an abortion. Bishop Rice also stated that a real man always defends life and takes responsibility for the life he helped create. You can view a gallery of photos here.

Governor Kehoe issued a proclamation yesterday declaring May 1 as “Sanctity of Life Day”. The proclamation states, in part, “the Missourians marching on this day give voice to the deep conviction that life is a sacred gift from God and that society is strengthened when every life is protected.”
