Special Legislative Session in Missouri to Begin Next Week

May 30, 2025

Governor Mike Kehoe issued a proclamation Tuesday announcing a special legislative session to address disaster relief for Missourians, tax incentives for economic development, and budget appropriations. “We call on legislators to use this special session as a rare opportunity to support our vulnerable neighbors in their time of need, drive economic development, and make transformative investments in our state. This work is too important to leave unfinished,” he stated.

The Missouri General Assembly will convene on Monday, June 2, 2025, to discuss Governor Kehoe’s priorities. Those include the following: 1) helping families impacted by recent severe storms by creating an income tax deduction for insurance deductibles related to storm damage and by expanding eligibility for the Missouri Housing Trust Fund; 2) helping retain the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals in Missouri by allowing professional sports teams to access state funding for stadium development through a new bonding mechanism; and, 3) making budget appropriations for various projects, such as the design and construction of the Radioisotope Science Center at the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR).

In accordance with the state constitution, lawmakers will have up to sixty calendar days to complete work on the matters addressed in the special legislative session.
