Senate Passes Campus Religious Liberty Bill

March 07, 2025

The Senate on Thursday third read and passed its version of the campus religious liberty bill. SB 160, sponsored by Sen. Brad Hudson (R – Cape Fair), would protect the rights of religious student groups at public universities. Specifically, the bill prohibits discrimination against a belief-based student association based on its requirement that leaders of the association adhere to its sincerely held beliefs, sincere practice requirements, or standards of conduct. The House version of this bill has already passed out of that chamber. However, this is the first year that the campus religious liberty bill has passed the Senate. SB 160 will now go to the House for debate.

The MCC testified in favor of SB 160.
