Medicaid provides health coverage to pregnant women, children, low-income parents, people with disabilities and the elderly. Even middle-class families often rely on Medicaid when an elderly parent enters a nursing home and their life savings become depleted.
A ballot initiative currently being circulated for the 2020 election would expand Medicaid to the working poor who make up to 138% of the federal poverty level ($34,763/yr for a family of four).
