Nativity Scene to be Displayed in MO Capitol Rotunda

December 10, 2024

This Christmas Season, the Missouri Nativity Scene Committee will display a nativity scene in the Missouri Capitol building and outside on the South Lawn steps in honor of the birth of Christ. The nativity scene will be displayed in the rotunda of the Missouri State Capitol building, located at 201 W Capitol Ave.

“The nativity scene in the Rotunda represents constitutionally protected free speech and expression of religious faith by private citizens in a traditional public forum,” said Tom Brejcha, Thomas More Society President and Chief Counsel. “The Government is neither censor nor endorser of such religious speech. In the Capitol Rotunda, where political rallies are routinely held during Government sessions, the Government is merely the gatekeeper upholding free speech.”

Thomas More Society provides legal counsel for the Missouri Nativity Scene Committee, organized by Judy Bax, a MidWest March for Life Team member, and the American Nativity Scene Committee, which places nativity scenes in public places in forty-three states.

“We are very pleased to be exercising our First Amendment rights by expressing our religious faith in public,” said Judy Bax of the Missouri Nativity Scene Committee. “Celebrating Christmas with a nativity scene in the Missouri State Capitol is an honor. A joyous Christmas to all!”
