The Missouri House this week completed its work on the $50.7 billion state budget for fiscal year 2025. The House version of the budget was nearly $2 billion less than the budget proposed by Governor Parson with most of the cuts coming from federal funds. During the marathon debate on Tuesday, House Democrats tried unsuccessfully to restore some of the cuts from Parson’s proposal.
The budget includes, among other things, $3.8 billion for public schools, a 3.2% pay raise for state employees, and an increase in grants to increase starting teacher pay to $40,000. The budget now goes to the Senate for further consideration. Work on the budget must be finished by Friday, May 10th.
