Missouri Attorney General Announces Investigation of Transgender Clinic

February 17, 2023

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey this week announced an investigation into allegations made by a former employee of the Washington University Transgender Center. Bailey said the investigation, which also includes the Missouri Department of Social Services and the Division of Professional Registration, was opened two weeks ago after a whistleblower contacted his office. The employee, Jamie Reed, alleges that the center was not doing enough to assess patients before starting treatment and would disregard the rights of parents. Reed detailed the allegations in an article published online last Thursday and in a sworn affidavit provided to Bailey’s office. U.S. Senator Josh Hawley also announced that he was launching an investigation into the clinic.

Representatives for the transgender center informed Bailey on Tuesday that they would not pause their activities during the investigation but would conduct an internal review and establish additional oversight procedures.
