While Valentine’s Day has become associated with chocolates, flowers, and romance, we know that the holiday has its roots as the feast day of St. Valentine. However, there is some confusion as to the saint’s true identity–there are at least two accounts of Valentine of Rome who may or may not be the same person–resulting in the Church removing his feast day from the liturgical calendar. While much may not be known about the life of St. Valentine, we can at least be certain that he is in Heaven. So as we exchange cards and candy and make reservations for a romantic dinner, let us not forget to ask for the intercession of St. Valentine. Pray for us!
