Governor Mike Kehoe celebrated a pair of legislative victories this week before legislators left for their spring break. The House on Wednesday passed one of Kehoe’s top priorities–a state takeover of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department–with seven Democrats joining nearly every Republican. On Thursday, the House gave its final approval to a sweeping utilities bill.
As the 2025 legislative session reaches its halfway point, the Republican supermajority has been unified and productive, in contrast with past years marked by personal grievances and infighting. In addition to the bills awaiting the governor’s signature, many Republican priorities have passed one chamber and are on track to receive final approval in the second half of session.
