Catholics will celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Thursday, August 15. The Holy Day commemorates the Blessed Virgin Mary being taken into Heaven. Pope Pius XII declared the Assumption of Mary a dogma of the Catholic Church in 1950, stating: “The Immaculate Mother of God, the ever-virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into Heaven.”
