Hundreds of thousands of young pilgrims from around the world are gathered together this week in Panama to pray and celebrate the Catholic faith at World Youth Day. The theme for this year's event is "I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word" (Luke 1:38).

At the event's opening Mass, Archbishop José Domingo Ullola Mendieta reminded those present that sainthood is 'not a myth.' He stated, "Let us not be afraid, dear young people, have the courage to be saints in today's world." In doing so, the pilgrims "will show the world that it's possible to be happy with so little, because Jesus Christ, the reason for our happiness, has already won for us eternal life with His resurrection."

World Youth Day will culminate with an overnight prayer vigil and Mass with Pope Francis January 26 - 27. Information for World Youth Day 2019, including an official schedule and live streams, can be found on the USCCB website.
