Voting Procedures for November Election

Much has been in the news lately about voting procedures for the November election. Each state has its own voting procedures. To vote in Missouri, one needs to be registered. Missouri offers voter registration online, by mail, in person, or you can request that an application be mailed to you. You have until October 7 to register to vote.

Once registered, you have the option this year to vote by absentee ballot or by mail-in ballots for the November election. The Secretary of State office has a handout on the requirements for absentee and mail-in voting. October 21 is the deadline to request either an absentee ballot or a mail-in ballot. Absentee ballots may be requested in person and may be turned in by mail or in person by election day. Mail-in ballots must be mailed back through the U.S. mail and received no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day.

For those voting on Election Day, the polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you arrive later than 7 p.m., you will not be allowed to vote, but those waiting in line at 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote. To find out where you need to go to vote, check with your local election authority.
