Thursday morning, the Capitol rotunda was filled with veterans who had gathered for a commemoration ceremony honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. For many veterans, it marked the first time they were thanked for their service to their country. The ceremony included a table of remembrance with a lighted candle honoring POW and MIA soldiers. Among the speakers was Governor Parson, who had served six years in the U.S. Army. He reminded those gathered that we stand on the service of others-that the freedoms we enjoy are because of the service and sacrifice of those who came before us. The program concluded with a pinning ceremony where all veterans and family members were given a special commemorative pin recognizing their service to their country during the Vietnam War.
