Archbishop Paul S. Coakley of Oklahoma City, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development, issued a statement this week calling on lawmakers in Congress, and the White House to reach a deal on the next COVID relief package to address ongoing needs in the areas of housing, food, and healthcare.
Congress acted quickly in a bipartisan fashion earlier this year in addressing the needs of the nation in light of the health crisis facing the country. However, Congress has been unable to reach an agreement on further measures to address the ongoing crisis. Given the upcoming election, it is unlikely any deal will be forthcoming.
