After stating that it would begin immediately enforcing new Title X regulations that prohibit federal family planning grants from going to organizations that refer patients for abortion, the Trump administration has now indicated that it will delay enforcement. According to a report from the Associated Press, the Department of Health and Human Services has stated that organizations will now have until August 19 to submit written assurance that they do not include abortion in family planning services. According to the notice, HHS "does not intend to bring enforcement actions" against organizations making "good-faith efforts to comply."
The Title X program was created in 1965 and provides funding for family planning for low-income families. It is estimated that the new rule will remove nearly $60 million in federal funding from Planned Parenthood.
