The Blue Ribbon Commission presented its recommendations to the State Board of Education on Tuesday, detailing immediate, short-term, and long-term solutions to address teacher recruitment and retention in the state. The report shows Missouri ranks 50th in the country with the lowest teacher pay. Last spring, the General Assembly approved funding to raise starting teacher salaries to $38,000 for the 2023 fiscal year. An immediate request made by the Blue Ribbon Commission is to amend Missouri Statute 163.172 and permanently raise the minimum teacher salary from $25,000 to $38,000. The Blue Ribbon Commission and State Board of Education are hosting a series of public engagement meetings in each of Missouri’s eight congressional districts to garner support for the recommendations.
