St. Louis Blues Win Team's First Stanley Cup

In a historic finish, the St. Louis Blues became Stanley Cup champions on Wednesday -- the first NHL championship win in franchise history. It had been nearly half a century since the team had made it to the finals; the last time was in 1970 when they were swept by the Bruins, who they defeated this series.

Generations of Blues fans gathered together at the sold-out watch party at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, and Busch Stadium welcomed fans (who cheered through the pouring rain) for their own watch party while the Cardinals were away. Following the win, fans celebrated late into the night with fireworks, cheers, and by playing "Gloria" on repeat. We think St. John Paul II was celebrating, too -- as you can see from this @archstl tweet, during this visit to St. Louis in 1999, the St. Louis Blues gifted him a hockey stick. Congratulations to our St. Louis Blues on an impressive achievement!
