The Satanic Temple has requested new Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett recuse herself from consideration of the group's lawsuit challenging Missouri's informed consent abortion law. The Satanic Temple claims that Justice Barrett's impartiality can be questioned based on her "publicly expressed religious beliefs that a human being comes into existence at conception, abortion is murder, and Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973)...was a "barbaric" decision that should "be put to an end." At issue is a challenge by a Satanic Temple member, Judy Doe, to Missouri's abortion law asserting that "the life of each human being begins at conception," and that requires a 72-hour waiting period. Doe alleged that the informed consent law violated her First Amendment rights. The district court dismissed her case and Doe appealed. The Eight Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the ruling and now the Satanic Temple is asking the Supreme Court to intervene.
