Russell Bucklew Set to be Executed: Contact the Governor for Clemency

Death Penalty Syringe

After nearly a three-year hiatus, the state of Missouri has set an execution date of October 1 for Russell Bucklew. He was convicted of fatally shooting Michael Sanders in Sander's trailer where he lived with Bucklew's ex-girlfriend. Bucklew's execution date has been set three times previously but halted over concerns about his medical condition. The condition, cavernous hemangioma, causes blood-filled tumors to grow in his head, neck and throat. His attorney has maintained that the tumors could burst during the execution by lethal injection causing him to choke on his own blood.

Religious and civic leaders, including the Catholic bishops of Missouri, have sent a clemency request to the governor asking that he commute his sentence to life without parole. You can add your voice to the call for clemency by contacting Governor Parson at (573) 751-3222 or by filling out an e-form here.
