Orange County's Crystal Cathedral Rededicated as Christ Cathedral

Crystal Cathedral

On July 17, the Crystal Cathedral, a former Protestant church that hosted the "Hour of Power" television show, was rededicated as Christ Cathedral, the seat of Bishop Kevin W. Vann of the Diocese of Orange County. The 78,000 square-foot glass cathedral was purchased by the Diocese of Orange County eight years ago and recently underwent a two-year, $77 million renovation. While the interior underwent substantial changes to transform from a Protestant mega-church into a Catholic cathedral, the outside of the structure, with its 11,000 glass panels, remains nearly the same.

The Christ Cathedral will have 12 masses, serving more than 12,000 Catholics, in four different languages -- English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese. To see more of the Christ Cathedral, including information on its renovation, please visit the cathedral's website.
