This week, the Missouri Senate passed its version of the FY23 budget, significantly increasing proposed spending above the amounts passed by the House. The House quickly rejected the Senate’s version and asked the Senate to go to conference so that differences could be worked out. The Senate agreed to send the bills to conference, and the conference committee will seek compromises next week. The Senate’s version of the budget is roughly $1 billion more than what was proposed by the House. It includes increased funding for beginning teacher salaries, full funding for school bus transportation, and full funding for Medicaid expansion, among other increases. The two bodies must pass the budget by next Friday, May 6th.
