Last year, the Bishops of Missouri invited the state's attorney general to conduct a review of each diocese in regards to clergy sexual abuse. Today, Attorney General Eric Schmitt released the findings of his investigation along with recommendations to the Church going forward. After reviewing records in each diocese going back to 1945 and conducting interviews with victims, the Attorney General's Office found "credible allegations of 163 instances of sexual abuse or misconduct by Catholic diocesan priests and deacons against minors," according to the report. The Attorney General's office will refer 12 of those cases for potential criminal prosecution.
