MCC Joins Call for Clemency for Russell Bucklew

Death Penalty Syringe
The State of Missouri is scheduled to execute death row inmate Russell Bucklew on October 1st for killing Michael Sanders, Bucklew's ex-girlfriend's lover, in 1996. This week, the MCC joined other advocates at the Missouri Capitol to call upon Governor Mike Parson to grant Bucklew clemency by reducing his sentence to life in prison.  Bucklew has a medical condition called cavernous hemangioma, which puts him at risk of internal bleeding and a failed and painful execution. At the rally, MCC Executive Director Tyler McClay read a statement issued last week by the Missouri bishops calling for clemency for Bucklew and for an end to the use of the death penalty. At the end of the rally, over 66,000 signatures for clemency were delivered to Governor Parson's office. The MCC asks its network members to pray for clemency for Bucklew and for an end to the use of the death penalty in Missouri.
