MCC from the Capitol Podcast Highlights Catholic Education in Missouri

Since 1875, Blaine Amendments in state constitutions aimed to prevent the use of public funds to support religious schools or institutions. Mike Hoey, former director of the Missouri Catholic Conference (MCC), explains the history of the Blaine Amendment in Missouri and how its anti-Catholic language kick-started the MCCʼs role in defending Catholic education at the capitol. 

“We had one of the worst constitutions, most bigoted constitutions,” Hoey said. “We finally got some services, but it took a lot of hard work and a lot of persistence from a lot of people around the state to get that done.”
