Lawmakers will return to Jefferson City next Wednesday for a one-day veto session to consider $555 million in cuts that Governor Mike Parson made to the state budget passed in May. Parson told reporters this week that while he expects the House to attempt to override some of the budget cuts, he doubts the Senate will do the same.
Parson said he made the cuts to the $51 billion state budget to address potential future costs. Among the cuts were $23 million for new police and 911 facilities in St. Louis and $28 million to widen Interstate 44.
Two-thirds of the House and Senate is required to override a governor’s veto.
