Legislative Session to End May 14th: Education Reform Still on the Table

mo capitol

Two weeks from now, the Missouri General Assembly will complete the 2021 legislative session. One legislative priority the MCC continues to watch is HB 349, the Missouri Empowerment Scholarship Accounts Program. This bill would allow persons contributing to an education scholarship-granting organization to claim a state tax credit equal to the total amount of the contribution made. The scholarship-granting organization could then make scholarships available to students currently attending public school who are looking for alternative educational opportunities. While not every student would be able to take advantage of these scholarships, HB 349, sponsored by Phil Christofanelli ( R-St. Charles), would represent the first such program in Missouri. The MCC testified in support of this program and has asked our network to contact their Senator to voice their support. If you have not already contacted your senator, please do so now by clicking here.
