Lawmakers Postpone Special Session After COVID-19 Outbreak Within Capitol

The Missouri Senate canceled its special session this week because of an outbreak of COVID-19 among its members and staff. The special session was focused on COVID-19 relief funding. Majority floor leader Caleb Rowden announced the postponement after multiple members of the Missouri House and at least one Missouri Senator had tested positive for the disease, along with several Capitol staff members. Rowden said in a tweet that the special session would be put on hold until after Thanksgiving break, but later in the week it was announced the Senate would reconvene on Nov. 23. Besides the COVID-19 relief package, the Senate will also consider legislation that protects businesses from pandemic-related lawsuits.
