Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Honored in Washington

After her death last weekend at 87, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was honored at her funeral this week, later spending a day lying in state at the U.S. Capitol, the first woman to receive the honor. She served on the court for 27 years after spending time on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals with former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, with whom she was good friends despite their significant philosophical differences. Ginsburg was the daughter of an immigrant father and a bookkeeper mother. “What’s the difference between a bookkeeper in Brooklyn and a Supreme Court Justice?” Ginsburg was known to quip. “One generation,” she would answer. 

The decision over her replacement on the court promises to be a divisive affair. Some are calling for President Trump to act quickly to name her replacement, while others are asking him to wait until the election is over. The President has promised to replace Justice Ginsburg with a female justice and is expected to make his choice known soon. In the meantime, may RBG RIP.
