The House this week third read and passed a bill to protect religious groups on college campuses. HB 1724, sponsored by Rep. Brad Hudson (R-Cape Fair), prohibits discrimination against a belief-based student group based on its requirement that leaders of the association adhere to its sincerely held beliefs, practices, or standards of conduct. The bill is a response to some colleges and universities denying campus religious groups the same access to facilities and activity funds as they do secular groups.
The bill now moves to the Senate. The MCC testified in favor of this bill.
