The House Special Committee on Government Oversight heard testimony this week on HB 1854, sponsored by Representative Nick Schroer (R-O’Fallon). HB 1854 would prohibit any abortion facility or its affiliates from receiving public funds. Federal and state law currently prohibits public funds from being used for abortion. Schroer’s bill would expand that prohibition by denying an abortion provider Medicaid reimbursement for non-abortion health care services.
The MCC testified in support of HB 1854. If the bill is voted out of committee, it will go to the full House for debate.
