Deadly Earthquake Strikes Puerto Rico

On Tuesday, a deadly 6.4 magnitude earthquake rocked southern Puerto Rico, leaving people without power and water. Many fear collapse of their homes. The quake, which left one man dead, followed a series of lesser tremors that have hit the island since Dec. 28. The governor declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard to assist with recovery. President Trump followed with an emergency declaration for aid and resources to the island. Among the damage was the collapse of Punta Ventana, which translates to "Window Point", a rock formation that was a major tourist attraction in the Guayanilla area. The island is still trying to recover from the effects of Hurricane Marie, a category 5 hurricane that devastated the island in Sept. 2017. You can help the recovery effort in Puerto Rico by donating to Catholic Charities USA.
