Deacon Says Surviving 9/11 Attack Left ‘No Questions About the Reality of God’

On the morning of September 11, 2001 now-Deacon Paul Carris settled into his cubicle of World Trade Center 1. Moments later, American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the massive building, also known as the North Tower. In the moments that followed, Deacon Carris and his co-workers began to evacuate the North Tower, along the way helping Judith Toppin, a fellow floormate with numerous health issues, escape. The pair ultimately made it out of the North Tower; however, the events of that day, along with a written reflection by Toppin, led Deacon Carris to examine his Catholic faith in ways he had not before.
