Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act Heard in House Committee

Baby In Womb

The House Special Committee on Government Oversight this week heard testimony on the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.” HB 1593, sponsored by Rep. Sarah Walsh (R-Ashland), and HB 1959, sponsored by Rep. Doug Richey (R-Excelsior Springs), require that babies born alive after an attempted abortion be given the same rights as any live-born child. The bills also require physicians to provide the same level of care to children born alive after an abortion as they would any other child. While the committee took no action on the bills, the committee chairman, Rep. Jered Taylor (R-Republic), indicated that both bills would be combined, with Representative Walsh as the lead sponsor. The MCC testified in support of both bills.
