Bobby Bostic, who spent 27 years incarcerated for crimes he committed as a teenager, was released from prison Wednesday morning. Bostic, now 43, was granted parole in December after Missouri legislators championed his case and changed state law. Bostic was sentenced to 241 years in prison for his role in a 1995 crime spree in St. Louis’ Botanical Heights neighborhood. He and an accomplice robbed a group of people delivering Christmas presents to the needy. He and the accomplice both shot a victim and then carjacked a woman at gunpoint.

The accomplice accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, but Bostic rejected the offer and later lost his case at trial. Bostic plans to mentor and teach young people to take a different path in life than he did.
