Apostolic Nuncio Requests Clemency for Missouri Death Row Inmate

Michael Tisius

Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio, issued a letter to Missouri Governor Mike Parson requesting clemency for death row inmate Michael Tisius. Acting as the personal representative of Pope Francis, the Archbishop told the Missouri governor Pope Francis appeals for mercy purely on the shared humanity of Tisius, the governor, and society at large.

“Our faith teaches us that every human life is made in the image and likeness of God,” said Pierre. “Our challenge is to honor this sacred gift of life from the Creator, even if Mr. Tisius has not done so.”

This letter arrives three weeks prior to Mr. Tisius’ scheduled execution date. As is the case with every Missouri execution, the Missouri bishops, through the Missouri Catholic Conference, will issue a clemency letter of their own to Governor Parson as well.
