As Americans prepare to celebrate Labor Day on September 2, Most Reverend Borys Gudziak, Chairman of the Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development (USCCB), and Most Reverend Mark J. Seitz, Chairman of the Committee on Migration (USCCB), issued an annual reflection on building a society that honors the human dignity of all who labor.
“This Labor Day, let us recommit ourselves to building together a society that honors the human dignity of all who labor. Through the treasure of Catholic social teaching, we have a long history of proclaiming the essential role labor plays in helping people to live out their human dignity,” the statement reads.
The statement asks that we “recognize all the laborers in the Lord’s vineyard and embrace them for who they truly are—our brothers and sisters.” The bishops stress the need for just wages, immigration reforms, and strengthening child labor law standards.
